At the end of July, Prof. Dr. Sven Laumer was a guest at the Schwabach entrepreneurs’ breakfast. At a summery temperature, Prof. Laumer discussed digitisation issues with the entrepreneurs from Schwabach and the surrounding area. In his talk, he emphasized that digitization is not an end in itself, but a strategic-analytical challenge to shape the use of IT in a company. The example Uber shows that it is not always necessary to digitize a process or an activity 1:1, but that the potential of digitization lies in the rethinking of processes and their optimized implementation in digital environments. If, like Uber, a digital innovation that has rethought a process offers added value for the user, is easy to use and the basis for trust exists, then a digital project is successful. These thoughts are not only relevant for large enterprises, but are also basic considerations for small and medium-sized enterprises, if they want to approach the topic of digitization.
