Bastian studied economics with a focus on business administration at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) from 2016 to 2019. The focus of his bachelor’s degree was on innovation and technology management as well as statistical methods, which he applied in his bachelor’s thesis on methods of technical financial market analysis.

To further specialize in information processing and data analysis, he subsequently studied for a master’s degree in International Information Systems, also at FAU, from 2019 to 2022. In the process, Bastian also took lectures and seminars from the Schöller Endowed Chair of Information Systems, which focused in particular on the importance of the human component when using digital applications. He used these collected insights in his master’s thesis in collaboration with Siemens to conceptualize, prototype, and evaluate a system for analyzing the user behavior of a software application. During his studies, he also worked as a tutor for several years, gaining experience in teaching.

Starting in July, Bastian will support the chair as a research assistant, supervising the BIDT project “Transforming digitally: digital innovations for the successful design of organizational change”. “The only constant in life is change ” (attributed to Heraclitus) – Companies are in a constant state of change, e.g. through digitalization, restructuring or realignment. This brings with it both opportunities and risks. The aim of this interdisciplinary research project is to explore the use of innovative digital technologies in organizational change processes in order to make them more successful and thus support companies in their transformation.
