Today we had the pleasure of welcoming a very special guest to our lecture “Data Science: Data Management and Analytics“: Long-time soccer referee Deniz Aytekin virtually visited FAU and spoke about the role of data in professional soccer. He talked about applying data management in professional sports. By examples of data which is collected about referees’ and players’ performance in each soccer game, he made clear that the key point is always to apply the data in a meaningful way. In his opinion data analytics, when applied correctly, is of major importance for performance improvement – not only in professional sports, but also in a business context.

We thank Mr. Aytekin for this practical lecture and wish him a cool head for the right decisions, especially on the pitch!
