On July 1, 2026, the Schöller Endowed Chair was a guest at the NIM Market Decisions Day hosted by the Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions (NIM) in Nuremberg. Under the theme “Longevity Economy—The Future of Consumption and Growth,” the event explored how companies can respond to changing social and regulatory conditions through durable products, sustainable business models, and innovative strategies.
Experts from academia and industry discussed topics such as repairability, the circular economy, product life cycles, and the impact of the “right to repair” on companies and consumers.
For our chair, the event offered numerous points of connection to current research questions in the field of business informatics. The presentations and discussions made it clear that digitalization plays a key role in the implementation of sustainable business models. For example, digital technologies make it possible to design product life cycles more transparently, to support maintenance and repair processes with data, and to promote circular value creation through digital product passports and intelligent information systems. At the same time, data-driven decision support and digital platforms help to use resources more efficiently and support sustainable consumption decisions.
The interdisciplinary exchange with researchers and representatives from companies was also particularly valuable. The discussions showed that successfully shaping a sustainable transformation requires not only technological innovations, but also organizational changes, appropriate digital infrastructures, and the acceptance and participation of users. We would like to thank NIM for the excellent organization and the inspiring insights. The NIM Market Decisions Day has once again demonstrated how valuable the exchange between academia and industry is for jointly developing (digital) solutions to the challenges of a sustainable transformation.
