The 26th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) took place in Portsmouth, England, at the end of June. Under the motto “Beyond Digitization – Facets of Socio-Technical Change”, researchers from Europe, but also from many other parts of the world, discussed current issues in information systems and digital transformation. The chair team also contributed to the success of the conference.

Together with Dr. Christian Maier and Jakob Wirth of the Otto-Friedrich University Bamberg, Prof. Dr. Sven Laumer presented the paper on the influence of resignation on the perception of privacy risks. In an empirical study, the team of authors examined to what extent individuals have resigned themselves to the protection of their privacy and therefore, although they perceive risks in their online behaviour, they still carry this out and do not protect their privacy. The results of the quantitative study with 180 participants showed that individuals publish personal data in social media, although they see little benefit from it and although they perceive risks for their privacy. As an explanation for this, the resignation of the individuals could be proven.

Prof. Dr. Sven Laumer was also the Track Chair for the IS Innovation Adoption and Diffusion Track. Together with Prof. Jason Thatcher, PhD of Clemson University, USA and Dr. Christian Maier, he organized the review process for many of the papers presented at the conference.
