The Schöller Endowed Professorship was represented at the ACM SIGMIS Computer and People Research (CPR) Conference with two contributions and a Best Paper nomination. Since 1962, the conference has provided international business informatics researchers with a platform to discuss current results on the interface between man and technology. One focus is also the “IT Workforce” and questions around IT professionals.

This year, the conference took place in Nashville, Tennessee. Together with authors from the ISDL team of the University of Bamberg, Prof. Laumer presented two papers at the conference.

The paper “Attracting Young IT Professionals: An Empirical Study Using the Theory of Attractive Quality” focuses on the question of which factors make an employer attractive for IT graduates. With reference to the KANO model, the authors show which factors are “must-have” and which factors can trigger enthusiasm for a company. The article is based on an empirical study with over 200 students in an IT course. The contribution was nominated by the program committee for the Magid Igbaria Outstanding Conference Paper of the Year Award.

In the second paper “Sustaining the IT Workforce: A Review of Major Issues in 25 Years and Future Directions“, the team of authors Caroline Oehlhorn, Dr. Christian Maier and Prof. Dr. Sven Laumer reviews 25 years of research on the IT Workforce. In their review, the authors outline the priorities that have been set in the last 25 years and which aspects should be addressed by research in the coming years against the background of current developments.

Prof. Dr. Sven Laumer was also co-chair of the Doctoral Consortium of the conference. Together with his colleagues, he has given feedback to eight PhD students from different countries (e.g. Germany, USA, Singapore) on their work and ideas within the framework of their doctoral procedures. In various discussion rounds, the challenges associated with a doctorate were also discussed and opportunities for the time thereafter were presented.

At the conference it was also decided that the 2020 ACM SIGMIS CPR Conference will take place in Nuremberg at WISO.
