Eva Gengler Successfully Completes Her Doctorate

Sven Laumer and Eva Gengler

This week, Eva Gengler successfully completed her doctoral dissertation at the Chair. Her PhD was developed as part of the international doctoral program “Business and Human Rights,” funded by the Elite Network of Bavaria.

In her dissertation titled “From Oppression to Empowerment: Regulating, Governing, and Reimagining Artificial Intelligence,” Eva Gengler examines power structures embedded in artificial intelligence systems. Her work focuses on how power manifests through data, design, and the actors involved in the development, deployment, and use of AI, and how regulation, governance, and feminist theory–informed interventions can help to challenge and transform these structures.

Prof. Dr. Sven Laumer, her doctoral advisor, emphasizes the significance of her contribution:

“Eva’s work makes an important contribution to understanding the ambivalence of technology in social and political contexts. Her research helps us better navigate the complex relationship between AI, power, and society.”

We warmly congratulate Eva Gengler on the successful completion of her doctorate and wish her all the best for her future academic and professional endeavors.
