Digital Sustainability

Overview

In our work, we explore the effects between the two concepts of digitalization and sustainability. On the one hand, we investigate how digital technologies and methods enable more sustainable behaviors of individuals, companies and societies. Our focus is on examining how digitization expands opportunities for sustainable action by exploring methods and technologies that enable the sustainable use of resources, such as by optimizing business processes, promoting sustainable consumer behavior, or supporting public good-oriented action.

Another focus is on analyzing the impact of digital technologies on individuals, companies and societies, and thus also the environment from a sustainability perspective. For example, we are studying the impact of digital technologies on society, such as the impact of automation and artificial intelligence on the world of work and social inclusion.

Overall, we are working to think digitization together with sustainability by better understanding impacts of these developments on individuals, companies and society, and thus the environment.
